1)Martial Arts School

   Martial Arts School of Wuhan Institute of Physical Education (WIPE) started to recruit graduate students majoring in martial arts in 1978. In 1984, Martial Arts School established Teaching and Research Office. In 1991, the Martial Arts School leadingly founded Martial Arts Department in China. In 2003, the Martial Arts Department changed its name into the Martial Arts School. The professor Wen Jingming, who is a famous martial arts educator, is the main founder of the Chinese Traditional Sports major in WIPE. Through hardwork of several generations, WIPE has accumulated a profound academic foundation. At present, the Martial Arts School has 47 people on its teaching staff, including 5 professors, 1 state-level coach and 17 associate professors. In the Martial Arts School, there are 3 sections: Wushu Taolu Section, Wushu Sanda Section and Wushu Theory Section . These 3 sections undertake 11 curriculum teaching work of the university, such as Wushu Taolu, Wushu Sanda, Fitness Qigong, Dragon Dance & Lion Dance, Chinese style wrestling and so on. After the hardwork of many years, Wushu School has obtained fruitful results in many aspects, such as teaching, training, scientific research and exchange with foreign countries etc. General Administration of Sport of China set up“The Training Base of High-Level Coach’s Position in Wushu Sanda of the Whole Country”, “The Training Base of the National Wushu Sanda Youth Athletes”, “The Science Research Base of the National Dragon Dance & Lion Dance Association” in WIPE. Since 1999, martial arts have all along been a key discipline among the colleges of Hubei province. In 2004, martial arts were awarded “Best Course” by Hubei Provincial Department of Education. Along with the vigorous development of sports education in China, the Martial Arts School has proceeded to take social demand as its guidance, teaching quality as its fundament, science research and athletics level as its developmental pivot, developing professional fields as its development space and take setting up the leading position in the same level colleges and departments of the whole country as its developmental goal. All the staff in the Martial Arts School are working diligently to achieve this goal.
