2) Sports Training School of Wuhan Institute of Physical Education

    According to the development targets of Wuhan Institute of Physical Education and the mode of building up of the Sports University, the Sports Training Department changed its name into Sports Training School in July 2006. Sports Training School shows the sound development situation. And the Sports Training major characteristics and the overall strength of the program have been increasingly showing some progress.

    Sports Training School is characterized by competitive sports; it takes cultivating students’ ability and enhancing students’ quality as its primary missions; it centers on students; it takes cultivating the sports coaches with broadly professional knowledge and prominent specialized skill and cultivating the talents who can take up sports teaching and scientific research & management in competitive sports as its targets.? The Sports Training major includes the main sports projects of Summer Olympic Games. At present, the Sports Training major has formed the mode of professional disciplines, the integration of teaching and training. Now, there are nearly 1100 students in the Sports Training School. 

    All the staff in Sports Training School have a strong determination to make progress in academics and contribute to the university. At present, there are 39 on staff. Among them, there are a group of prominent experts, professors and associate professors (including high-level coaches). Among them, there is 1 leader in academy of General Administration of Sport of China,1 expert under the sponsorship of Hubei Provincial Government’s subsidy, 5 professors, 4 international level referees and 10 state-level referees.

    With many years’ experience, Sports Training School has formed disciplines with prominent characteristics. Sports Training School adheres to the integration of theory and practice, taking Sports Training Control, Sports Training Methodology, the Physical Training of Athletes and the Marketing of Competitive Sports as primary research directions. It also adheres to serving for “Olympic Strategy” and “China National Games Strategy”. All these have gained fruitful research achievements: Sports Training is the Best Course in Hubei Province; Boxing and Wrestling are famous all over the country, and Swimming is a High Qualified Course in Wuhan Institute of Physical Education. Many coaches and referees of Sports Training School are well-known in the whole country.

    In the domestic and international competitions, Sports Training major students have received a total of more than 100 gold medals, silver medals and bronze medals. All the medals contribute honor to China and WIPE. Since 1983, the school began cultivating Sports Education & Training major graduates. And in 2005, WIPE was approved to confer Doctor’s degree in Sports Education & Training.

    In accordance with the "11th Five-Year" development planning, all the staff and students in Sports Training School are united and constantly innovating. In order to further enhance the Sports Training School level, all the faculty and staff have boundless enthusiasm and an enterprising spirit. They are determined to make greater progress to build the school into having an obvious discipline advantage, distinctively competitive and well-known in China.
